A to Z SECRETS FROM A GOLF PRO

Review by John K. Darling, Founder, Senior Friendly Golf LLC

Several years ago I had my first hip replacement. My surgeon 's orders were that I not play golf for 90 days. On the 91st day I showed up at the Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage, California. My teacher was Bobby Steiner, who is a former Golf Digest teacher. When I arrived I was introduced to Barry Clayton, head of Golf Instruction. Barry was a gentleman and appeared to be truly interested in my having a good golf school at his facility. Little did I know that I would be reviewing his current teaching book, A to Z SECRETS FROM A GOLF PRO.

By the way, in our Other Reviews section you will find my review of Bobby Steiner's book, MUNI, THE JITTER BUG COLLECTION.

I am currently recuperating from my second hip replacement and find this to be just the right time to review Barry's new book. While The Jitterbug Collection is written in a humorous storyline presentation, A to Z Secrets gets down to business to help struggling golfers knock off those ten strokes to break 100, 90 or even 80. If you are a beginner, I do not recommend this book to you. To really get the most out of it, one must at least play at golf. Once you have had a couple of lessons and have played a dozen or so rounds, get the book. You will find a critique on just about every shot you will be faced with on any golf course.

I like novels and books that break down to short chapters with lots of photos. A to Z follows this format well. Another plus is that Barry gives a short summation at the end of each chapter.

Get the book, read it and then apply one or two of the A to Z lessons each time you go practice and play. The book is published by iUniverse, Inc. 2021 Pine Lake Rd., Suite 100, Lincoln, NE 68512. http://www.iuniverse.com. $22.95 is money well spent.
